Workshop Description
In this workshop I will teach the participants to make own sketching tools from dry twigs and dish washing sponge. We will also explore the use of Chinese ink as the main medium and the traditional Chinese ink painting concept of leaving white space.
Learning Goals
Sketching with Dry Twigs & Chinese Ink encourages the participants to handmade their own simple sketching tools with dry twigs collected from the surrounding. Explore the three basic art elements: dots, lines and shades in sketching with the medium of Chinese ink.
Participant’s Supply List
- Cutter knife
- Small size stencil brush or oil painting brush
- Watercolour set
- Watercolour papers (Cold Press CP, 28 x 38 cm)
Instructor will Supply
- The twig I use (one each for every participants)
- Chinese ink (the brand I use for everyone to try)
- Small size Chinese painting brush

Workshop #2/2: Sketching Nature with Graphite & Watercolour Graphite

Date: September 7, 2025 (Sun) or September 14, 2025 (Sun)

Workshop Description
In this workshop participants will explore monotone sketch by using combination method of graphite pencil and watercolour graphite (the medium), pencil lines and Chinese calligraphy brush strokes (the lines), pencil hatching and brush painting (the texture).
Learning Goals
Sketching with Graphite & Watercolour Graphite encourages the participants to work with free hand lines, to look for the rhythms in lines, composition and subject. Participants will also learn the art of leaving negative space in composition.

- Cretacolor monolith graphite 9B & 6B
- ArtGraf Watercolour Graphite
- Pencil sharpener
- Small size water spray bottle
- Watercolour papers (Cold Press CP, 28 x 38 cm)
Instructor will Supply
- Small size Chinese calligraphy brush
- Pre-mounted rice paper card
